March 13, 2008

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for southeastern New Mexico, including Curry and Roosevelt counties, from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday and noon to 8 p.m. Friday.

Strong winds and low humidity are expected, leading to high fire danger, according to the NWS.

The NWS also has issued a high wind watch for the area Friday morning through Friday evening.

The NWS predicts sustained winds of 30 to 45 mph with gusts of 55 to 65 and possibly even 70 mph.

Strong winds can cause blowing dust and reduced visibility, as well as dangerous crosswinds that can affect travel, according to the NWS.
