Udall wants to honor Bataan vets

U.S. Rep Tom Udall, D-N.M., wants to bestow Bataan Death March veterans with the Congressional Gold Medal.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW), 2.3 million members strong, has endorsed the plan, according to a news release from Udall’s office.

“The coalescing support around this long-overdue tribute to the veterans who endured unimaginable hardships in Bataan is very heartening,” said Udall. “I hope the VFW’s endorsement of my legislation to finally honor these soldiers will translate into more Congressional support for the measure.”

Gayla Brumfield is Clovis’ new mayor. Here’s what Raymond Atchley is expecting:

“Please take may analogy in the right way,” he wrote in an e-mail in response to an editor’s question, “but I want my mayor to work very much like my water heater. I always have plenty of hot water, it makes me feel better, and yet I never think about where such bliss comes from or the whole process involved before I get it.

“I want my mayor to do such a great job I rarely think of the hard work to produce the benefit.”
