Clovis mayoral candidate Gloria Wicker says she is a proponent of open government.

“Right now I do not recall when I may have denied an interview to a reporter or failed to answer their questions with honesty,” she wrote in response to questions about public access to government information.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac reports we’ll see our first full moon of 2008 tonight.

Clovis’ Ardyth Elms is convinced the full moon has some kind of mystical power.

“I worked in a mental hospital for the criminally insane for 23 years and, yes, it really affects people,” she wrote in an e-mail. “I think if the person is also mentally ill, it seems to affect them more than the average person. Ask any policeman and he/she will tell you the same thing. I don’t know why, but it does.”

Clovis’ Gerald Majewski reports he had a memorable full-moon experience outside his apartment building when he lived in Budapest.

“I heard voices in the middle of our courtyard and wanted to know just what was going on,” he wrote in an e-mail.

When he went to investigate, he found he was alone – and locked out of his building for three hours before help arrived.

“I think I have had my share of weird and unusual things happen to me in both my military and foreign service careers,” he wrote. “But I’d probably do it again.”
