ENMU spring semester begins

The first day of spring semester classes at Eastern New Mexico University didn’t seem to be too much of a problem for many students returning to school.

Many students had less than a handful of classes while getting set in their new surroundings for the spring semester.

“(I’m) just excited, pretty much,” sophomore business major Jon Gallegos said. “I’m just ready to go back.”

Gallegos had two classes on Monday; math 118 and macroeconomics, but he said both classes lasted about five minutes each.

“They went pretty good,” Gallegos said. “We got the syllabus and just left.”

Gallegos’ laid-back situation was the norm, according to many other students.

Junior Wesley Dudley, a criminal justice major, also only had a few classes on his first day back.

“I was pretty excited. I’m just ready to get back to work,” Dudley said. “The first day is always pretty lax,” Dudley said. “You really don’t start getting to work probably until next week. But it’s just nice to see new faces, old faces and get going.”

ENMU students Alan Pilley and Tyler Dunnaho are both from Hagerman.

Pilley is a sophomore transfer from New Mexico State majoring in criminal justice.

“I like the town. I know some people here,” Pilley said. “Everything about it looked right to me, so I decided to come over.”

Dunnaho, a second-semester freshman, didn’t have too much trouble on his first day back to school.

“It was pretty easy,” Dunnaho said. “We actually had homework in my English class. It was pretty easy though.”

January academic schedule:

• Monday: Instruction began

• Jan. 14-18: Late Registration, drop or add

• Jan. 21: Martin Luther King Jr. Day

• Jan. 22: Registration canceled for non-payment
