Three Roosevelt County 4-H members were among those honored statewide by New Mexico 4-H for earning letters in home economics and creative arts.

Jalayna Roberts received a platinum letter for 2007 in November recognizing her as among the top two in the state. She also received a silver letter for her age group.

Jasi Roberts received a bronze letter.

The letter criteria is divided into three age groups: Bronze for novice members age 9-11, silver for junior members age 12-13 and gold for senior members 14-19. The ultimate honor is the platinum letter, which is awarded to two participants each year to demonstrate that their work was the best among those who lettered.

Rachel Cox was recognized as receiving a platinum letter in 2006 and being in the first group in the state to letter.

Miller

Robert and Mitzi Miller of Floyd own an Angus bull listed in the Spring 2008 Sire Evaluation Report published by the American Angus Association in St. Joseph, Mo, according to a press release.

Issued spring and fall, the report features the latest performance information on 5,299 sires.

Smith

Greg Smith of Elida owns three Angus bulls listed in the Spring 2008 Sire Evaluation Report published by the American Angus Association in St. Joseph, Mo.

Shearer

Mighty’s First Call, a 3-year-old brown mare owned by Richard R. Shearer of Portales, captured second place in the $125,000 Lou Wooten Handicap RG1 at Sunland Park, according to a press release from American Quarterhorse Association.

The horse, ridden by Roy Baldillez and trained by Blane Wood, covered the 400-yard race in a time of 19:22.
