Winter concert set
The Portales High School Music Department presents its winter concert on at 2 p.m. today in the Performing Arts Center.
The PHS Ram Band will be performing as well as the Concert Choir, Chorale and Music Theory class. The students will be playing and singing a wide variety of music for the holiday season.
Admission is free, but prepaid phone cards are being accepted to send overseas to the troops. A $5 donation could also be made to help defer costs for shipping and to purchase more phone cards. For more information call Franklin Smith at 356-7097 ext. 1818.
ACT, SAT dates set
Seniors interested in attending a four-year university after graduation must take a college entrance exam, either the ACT or the SAT. The next ACT will be given on Feb. 9. Deadline to register is Jan. 4. The next SAT will be given on Jan. 26. Deadline to register is Dec. 26. Seniors should also be applying to the colleges of their choice this month as well as obtaining scholarship information.
Wal-Mart scholarship available
Wal-Mart is once again offering the COMMUNITY Scholarship this year for college-bound senior students. The COMMUNITY Scholarship is a non-renewable $1,000 award for the first year of undergraduate study at an approved accredited college or university.
The 2008 Sam Walton COMMUNITY Scholarship is available through http://www.walmartfoundation.org. The deadline for entry is a postmark of Jan. 14, 2008 for the online submission and mailing of all required documents.
School administrators scholarship
The New Mexico Coalition of School Administrators will award $2,000 to a graduating senior with a GPA of 3.0 or better. Get information and apply before Feb. 15, 2008. Students can visit the Counseling and Guidance office to pick-up an application.
Burger King offers scholarships
Burger King Scholars Program is offering $1,000. Online application can be found at http://www.bk.com/scholars. Requires a 2.5 GPA, work part-time an average of 15 hours a week, and actively involved in community service. Based on financial need. Due Feb. 18, 2008.

Students can visit the counseling and guidance office for more information about college entrance exams, college admissions, and scholarships.
