Students make All-District Honor Choir

Choir Director Suzanne Cottrell took 15 students to Artesia Nov. 16 to perform in the All-District Honor Choir. Seventh grade students Lynne McDonald, Audriana Underhill, Monica Vicuna, Megan Sutton, Hannah Christensen, Emily Benavides and Samantha Sawyer joined eighth grade students, Kabrina Abyeta, Grady Beachum, Ryan Doolady, Ashley Holmes, Kim Manquero, Marissa Mowrer, Samantha Villanueva and Raegan Whited.

The 112-member Treble Choir performed Riversong, Dos Cancioncitas (Two Little Songs), All my Trials, In the Bleak Midwinter, and Goin’ to Boston. The 246-member mixed choir performed Obwisana (Goin’ to Ghana), De Colores, Ezekiel’s Wheel, Autumn Vester, and Ching A Ring Chaw. Students combined to perform Oye la Musica (Hear the Music).

Students met the bus at 5:30 a.m. Friday, practiced a day in Artesia before their performance in the evening. It was well after 10 p.m. when they returned to Portales.

Family Fun Night set

PJHS teachers will hold the first Family Fun Night from 6:00 to 7:30 Friday. Students will take their parents to each of their classes, and teachers will have an activity for the student and parents to complete.
