It’s their job: Ginger Boone

Name: Ginger Boone

Job: Owner and operator of Joe Boys

Time on the job: One year and one month

Background: Over the years, Boone has owned several businesses in the Portales area and worked in retail.

Q. Describe what your job entails.

A. I do all the buying, I have to go out and find my merchandise, which is the fun part. (I do) cleaning and pricing, a lot of research on the items I buy — antiques and collectibles — and (I have) the pleasure of dealing with the people and the public.

Q. What is a typical day on the job like for you?

A. I receive many phone calls from people wanting to sell items or to inquire if I have a certain item. The best part of the day is when a customer comes in and sees an item that their grandmother had and used and it brings tears to their eyes because of the fond memories.

Q. Why did you choose this job?

A. I really choose this job because I had accumulated so many items I needed to do something. I felt there was a need for a good used furniture store with a combination of antiques and collectibles for the people of Portales.

Q. What type of training do you need for your job?

A. It’s a learning process and hands-on.

Q. What do you enjoy most about your job?

A. I love being around people and visiting with my customers. I love the excitement of finding an item that I have searched for for a long time for either myself or a customer, and I’m pleased that there is a need for the people of Portales for this type of business and that I will be expanding and opening another location for used furniture.
