Nov. 18 Club Notes

Altrusa

Members of Altrusa Club of Clovis met Nov. 12 for their regular program meeting at Muffley’s Back Door.

Jennifer Koonsman, Glenda Hileman and Kathy Travis served as hostesses.

Mona Lee Armstrong, Curry County Literacy representative, spoke about the work of the council and encouraged the members to participate as tutors or classroom assistants. She reported the council is serving over 50 individuals.

The club voted to provide a Christmas basket for an individual in need and members will bring needed items to their Christmas party. The basket will be filled and delivered before Christmas.

The club will host Dillard’s shopping night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 2.

The next meeting will be held at noon Nov. 27 at Muffley’s Back Door.

The Claud Rainy Day Extension Club

The Claud Rainy Day Extension Club met Nov. 7 at the Starbuck’s home.

Officers for the upcoming year are President Aloha Starbuck, Vice-president Betty Mobley, Secretary/Treasurer Judy Gambill and Reporter Lucy Johnson.

Dues were paid and tickets were sold for the Nov. 15 annual County Banquet.

New members, Hilda Rogers, Ginger Beck and Hildagunde Pulz, were welcomed.

Money from the recent white elephant sale was given to the Eastern New Mexico Food Bank.

Several members attended the leader training “German Fest.” Recipe booklets from the event were given out.

The next meeting will be a Christmas party and gift exchange Dec. 5 with Joy Pattison.

Fairfield Extension Club

The Fairfield Extension Club met Nov. 9 at Mary Dell’s home with 16 members and one guest present.

Dell and Viola McGregor served as hostesses.

The minutes from the previous meeting were read.

Jan Prater gave a demonstration on how to make a nativity scene using clay pots. Kits were distributed.

Plans for the Christmas meeting were discussed and members decided to bring canned food to donate to the Lighthouse Mission.

The next meeting will be at 10 a.m. Dec. 14 at Cheyenne Trails.

Encanto Garden Club

The Encanto Garden Club held their November meeting at the Masonic Lodge with Bess Kline as hostess.

Garden club members from Nara Visa and Santa Rosa were guests.

Guest speaker was Steve North from the district attorney’s office. He spoke about the Newman Project which is directed by his office. The Newman Project, named for murdered Portales residents Doris and Odis Newman, is funded by the state and promotes safety among senior citizens through awareness and education.

North advised that home safety inspections are available through this program.

A silent auction was conducted by Jane Rybolt, assisted by Helen Martinez and Jackie Wuest.

The business meeting was conducted by President Barbara Voges.

The Clovis Quilter’s Club

The Clovis Quilter’s Club met Nov. 12 at Trinity Lutheran Church with 22 members and one guest, Tammy Francis, present.

Twelve of the members participated in the all day Crazy Nine Patch workshop taught by Amy Armenta.

Pat Hensley gave the treasurer’s report.

The Christmas party will be held next month at K-Bob’s with a quilt block exchange.

Reports were given on the High Plains Quilt Festival and the centennial quilt. A total of 22 charity quilts have been delivered this year.

Projects for next year were set up including mystery block, fat quarter drawing, charity plus blocks, round robin vest and new techniques. The group will continue with the block of the month, show and tell and a program presented at each meeting.

Show and tell items were shared and 12 Christmas stockings turned in.

Armenta presented the block of the month.

Chaparral Extension Club

The Chaparral Extension Club met Nov. 8 at Leal’s with 18 members and one guest, Pat Martin, present.

Two new members, Sandra Stalcup and Hilda Rogers, joined the club. Canned goods were collected to be delivered to the Matt 25 Hope Center.

The group was reminded about the annual banquet scheduled for Nov. 15. The Christmas party will be held Dec. 13 at Dorothy Bean’s with a gift exchange and canned goods collection.
