Basketball season opens

Both of the girls “A” teams host Yucca Thursday for the first tip-off of the season. The boys “A” teams head to Clovis to play Yucca on their home court. Action begins at 4 p.m.

Progress reports ready

Parents may come by the junior high from 5:45-7 p.m. on Tuesday and from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday to pick up their child’s progress report. These reports show a child’s grades so far this second quarter.

There will be plenty of time to devise an action plan to bring up grades if those have slipped below expectations, say school administrators.

Math tutoring for parents planned

At 6 p.m. Tuesday parents can get a little refresher course on the way math is being taught with the new math books. This will allow parents insight into the vocabulary being used as teachers explain the processes to solve problems. The goal is for parents to feel better equipped to help their children with their homework, say administrators.

Tutoring offered to all students

Portales Junior High School offers tutoring both before and after school Monday through Thursday. Morning sessions are 7-8 a.m. and afternoon sessions are from 3:10-4:10 p.m. Students can find help in history, language arts, math, and science. Schedules are available on the reception table near the front office.

Web sites for students and families

Now that all students have their laptops, the librarian reminds them to put the following Internet address in their thaw space. It has links to many information sites relating to school subjects. Thanksgiving holiday coming

According to Assistant Principal Glenda Meeks says that school will be closed three days for Thanksgiving: Nov. 21-23.

GEAR-UP college visit

Friday the eighth-grade students will visit Eastern New Mexico University as Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs sponsors an informational tour. Students will be there from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
