The following childrens books are available at the Portales Public Library:

Moses: When Harriet Tubman Led Her People to Freedom

This lyrical retelling of one of the most famous members of the Underground Railroad focuses on her spiritual strength. Harriet Tubman was deeply religious, and her deep faith not only helped her obtain her own freedom, but helped her lead as many as 300 other people to freedom. A Caldecott honor book for its stunning illustrations, this uplifting biography of a heroic American was also the winner of the Coretta Scott King award.

Skeleton Hiccups

Get ready for some Halloween fun with this new picture book. When Skeleton gets the hiccups he tries everything to get rid of them. Pictures of Skeleton eating sugar (no stomach to catch it), or drinking water upside down (water pouring out of his eye sockets), will have readers giggling. But best of all is the solution that his friend Ghost comes up with to “scare” the hiccups right out of him.

Flora Segunda
