Police probe suspicious death

The death of a Clovis man whose body was found in a Bloomfield hotel last month is being investigated as suspicious, police said.

Donald Prince, 52, was found dead Sept. 14.

Bloomfield Police Lt. Mike Kovacs said the case has been classified as suspicious and is still under investigation. Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy and toxicology report, which they expect later this week, Kovacs said.

He would not say why the death was suspicious.

“Right now it’s an ongoing investigation and nothing is going to be released,” he said.

Clovis’ Christina Snell, Prince’s sister, said police notified the family of Prince’s death in the early morning hours of Sept. 14. They told family members Prince had been dead “hours” by the time they were called to the hotel, she said.

She said her family is frustrated by a lack of information from police in the case.

Prince was in Farmington on a camping trip when he died, Snell said. Snell said family members became concerned when two days passed and they didn’t hear from him.

She said her brother made a habit of calling his mother daily and the lack of communication was uncharacteristic.
