• Eastern New Mexico University announced that enrollment for the 1988 Fall semester was at 3,688.
• Ten young women from the area were vying for the title of Miss Portales. The Miss Portales pageant was scheduled to take place in the Portales High School Auditorium.
• A four bedroom one bath house with 15 acres, detached garage, new carpet, new paint, new kitchen with good barns and water, rented for $452 monthly.
