Local DA handling Albuquerque case

An Albuquerque man was indicted Friday by an Albuquerque grand jury in a murder-for-hire case being handled by the 9th Judicial District attorney’s office.

Earl Scott Robinson, 72, is being held on $1 million bond and is charged with conspiracy to commit murder, criminal solicitation to commit murder, witness intimidation and retaliation against a witness, District Attorney Matt Chandler said.

Chandler said his office was asked to handle the case because the targets include the prosecutors and judge in the case.

Chandler said he will prosecute the case and the investigation is being conducted by his office.

Robinson, an Albuquerque inmate awaiting trial for criminal sexual contact, is accused of plotting to kill his victim and a victim’s family member as well as the prosecutors and judge, according to officials.

Police said Robinson gave another inmate a note promising $15,500 payment for killing his 11-year-old victim and the boy’s grandmother to force charges against him to be dropped.

The inmate told police Robinson told him he planned to “eliminate” the prosecutors and judge in his case.
