Lelei leads Hound harriers at UNM

ALBUQUERQUE — Senior Nimrod Lelei finished 23rd in a field of 84 runners Saturday, leading the Eastern New Mexico University men’s cross country team to a sixth-place finish in the Lobo Invitational cross country meet, hosted by the University of New Mexico.

Lelei’s time was 27 minutes, 47 seconds over eight kilometers as the Greyhounds finished with 164 team points. Texas-El Paso took five of the top six individual places, led by Stephen Samoei in 24:19, to win the team title in a nine-team competition with 19 points to 59 for UNM.

New Mexico took the women’s team title, finishing with 21 points to 45 for UTEP. ENMU was seventh out of eight teams with 217 points.

The Zias’ top runner was senior Jasmine Sanchez, who placed 36th out of 70 runners with a time of 21:51 over 6K.
