Zias drop pair of matches

DURANGO, Colo. — The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team finished off a winless weekend in a tournament hosted by Fort Lewis, losing on Saturday to Colorado State-Pueblo in a 24-30, 32-30, 30-28, 30-28 squeaker before falling 30-15, 30-17, 30-16 to Ashland (Ohio), the eighth-ranked team in NCAA Division II.

Taren Frazier led four players in double figures ini kills with 16 for Pueblo (2-5). Lindsey Wilson added 15 kills and 26 digs for the Thunderwolves.

Jessie Macknicki and Veronica Valdez collected 15 kills apiece for the Zias (2-7), while Macknicki was among five players in double figures in digs with 19 and among three ENMU players with three aces.

Ashland (5-0) got 15 kills and seven total blocks from Amanda Stefanski in cruising to victory. Macknicki led the Zias with 10 kills, nine digs and two aces.

Macknicki was named to the all-tournament team. She collected 46 kills, eight aces and 59 digs in the Zias’ four matches
