The Clovis Journal reported A.E. Signer, who had farmed southeast of Clovis for nine years, had “the best crops this year” that he had ever raised. ... Secretary Rufus Jones of the Clovis Chamber of Commerce was asking area businessmen to be careful “in subscribing to the various war charities which are soliciting throughout the country.” ... The United States Food Administration asked readers to “save food —120 million allies must eat” in an advertisement.
