ARTESIA — The Clovis High girls lost matches to Carlsbad 6-0 and Roswell Goddard 6-1 on Saturday in the Artesia Invitational soccer tournament.
Both teams pulled away late in the half against the Lady Wildcats (0-3), who lost in a shootout to Las Vegas Robertson in Friday’s first round. Christa Miller scored Clovis’ only goal early in the second half against Goddard, taking a crossing pass from Taisha Bosque.
“We actually had a lot of chances early to go on top,” Lady Cats coach Shane Leatherwood said of the Goddard match. “We dominated for a while; it’s just that when they got down on our end, they put it in on us. But we did a lot of good things.”
Carlsbad led 1-0 before scoring a goal with about 10 minutes left in the half, and the Cavegirls tacked on four more after intermission.
