Hounds rout Cougars in opener

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Sophomore midfielder Ryan McClanahan scored two goals and junior forward Jared Morris added a goal and an assist Saturday as the Eastern New Mexico University men’s soccer team opened its season with a 6-1 win over Colorado Christian.

McClanahan scored the game’s opening two goals, the first on a penalty kick in the 13th minute and the second on an assist from Morris in the 35th minute.

The Cougars (0-2) cut the margin in half less than four minutes later, but ENMU got that goal back on a goal by sophomore midfielder Derek Bravo at the 39:39 mark and took a 3-1 lead into halftime.

The Hounds tacked on three goals in the final 30 minutes to turn the match into a runaway.

Shade’s tally was the only one of five shots for the Cougars that was on goal. Senior goalkeeper Leif Craddock did not have to make a save all day.

The Hounds will be in Denver today to take on Regis in a 1:30 p.m. clash.
