Background: Rains has been in the cosmetology business for the past 42 years. She moved to Portales from Phoenix.
Q. Describe what your job entails?
A. Hair color, perms, styles, up-dos, men’s, women’s and children’s cuts.
Q. What is a typical day on the job like for you?
A. Greeting clients, taking care of their needs and wants regarding their hair.
Q. Why did you choose this profession?
A. As a way to provide for my family and to make customers feel good.
Q. What type of training do you need for your job?
A. 1,800 hours of cosmetology school when I went and a high school degree. It took about one and half years of school. We also do continuing courses.
Q. What do you enjoy most about your job?
A. Meeting the people of Portales and the friendships I receive from my clients. It’s a very personal thing for me to spend quality time with my clients and becoming friends. Also meeting the ENMU students and watching them grow.
