Man sentenced for five burglaries

A 41-year-old man was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison for burglarizing five homes and businesses, according to a news release from the9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Joe Anthony Montano was caught by police carrying items from a home on Thornton Street in April, the release said.

After his arrest, police connected Montano with the burglaries of two more residences, the Clovis Board of Realtor’s office and Walker’s Paint and Body Shop, the release reads.

Montano will be required to serve three years supervised parole following his release, the release said.

Police set to host town hall seminar

The Clovis Police Department will host a town hall seminar for crime prevention at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lyceum Theatre, 411 N. Main St.

Topics such as narcotics, gang activity and other community issues will be discussed, according to a police department press release.

Clovis police officers will speak about crime prevention and programs that can be utilized in the community.
