Suspect found in AC structure

A 40-year-old Clovis man is in jail, accused of burglary, after police caught him hiding up inside an old air conditioning structure Monday night, police reports said.

Martin Garza is being held on an $11,000 bond, according to jail officials. He is charged with commercial burglary, possession of burglary tools and evading and eluding a police officer.

Police responded to the Matt 25 Hope Center in the 1200 block of Thornton Street around 7:30 p.m. after staff members spotted a man climbing over the fence. They told the officer there had been problems with people stealing copper wire from the chiller area where the building’s cooling system is housed, the report said.

When the officer shined his flashlight up into an old structure in the area, he spotted Garza’s legs and feet, the report said. The officer ordered him to come down, and Garza complied after a few minutes when use of a stun gun was threatened, the report said.

Police found in his possession, the report said, tools including a power saw, crow bar and saw blades, some marked with his name in permanent marker.
