Armed robber strikes store
June 13, 2007
Portales Police were seeking an arrest warrant Wednesday night for a man they believed robbed Video World, 505 W. 18th St., Tuesday night, and possibly another video store last week.
Police served search warrants at a home on West 17th Lane on Wednesday and recovered items they believe were used in Tuesday’s robbery, including a handgun, according to Capt. Lonnie Berry, spokesperson for Portales Police.
No arrests had been made by press time, according to Berry.
Berry said based on the similarity in suspect descriptions and items collected at the West 17th Lane residence, the suspect in Tuesday’s robbery could be the same person that held up Landall’s Box Office on Friday.
Police were called to Video World about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday after a report of an armed robbery.
Police say a Hispanic male in his 20s entered the store and demanded the money from the register while brandishing a handgun. Berry said the sole employee in the store at the time, complied with the robber’s demands and the suspect left the store with an undetermined amount of cash.
According to Berry witnesses outside the store confirmed that the individual left on foot. He said the suspect was described as just under 6 foot tall, wearing a blue bandanna over his face, a black baseball cap and baggy pants.
Berry said that following a call on a domestic dispute around 4 p.m. Wednesday, police arrived to find that the suspect in the domestic, who fled the scene, could be connected with the robbery.
