Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

June 27, 1952

A Clovis school teacher, Mrs. Fred Phelps, won a gas range for attending a three-day cooking school sponsored by Southern Union Gas Co. and the Clovis News-Journal. She said it was the only “time in my life that I’ve ever won anything big. … I won a sack of flour. But it’s the first time anything like this ever happened to me.” … Clovis Steam Laundry, 103 Main, announced new equipment would once again allow pick-up and delivery service. … Police were investigating a woman’s death at a local motel. A male companion left a note saying the woman died of “epileptic fits,” but his whereabouts were not known. … And Clovis’ Michael Erwin was born in Cleveland.
