Boys’ State applications available

The American Legion is seeking sponsors for its upcoming Boys’ State and Girls’ State programs.

The programs annually take 300 to 400 young men and women from across New Mexico and teach them about political organization, campaigning and how to serve in elective office.

Both sessions will take place on the campus of Eastern New Mexico University. Girls’ State is scheduled for May 27 to June 1, while Boys’ State is scheduled for June 3-8.

The cost for room and board per student is $150 for the week-long sessions. The American Legion provides counselors and support materials through its local posts.

Students interested in participating in the program may pick up applications at their school counselor’s office or at any New Mexico American Legion Post.
