Tucumcari woman shot, killed

TUCUMCARI — A 21-year-old Tucumcari woman was the victim of an apparent homicide on Tuesday, Tucumcari police said.

Tiffany Throckmorton was shot Tuesday morning and died about an hour and 15 minutes later at Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital, according to a police news release.

Throckmorton, who was at 222 E. High Street, had a gunshot wound to her left side, the release stated.

Police have taken an unidentified 24-year-old Tucumcari male into “investigative custody,” Police Chief Larry Ham said in the release.

The New Mexico Police Crime Team is coming to Tucumcari to assist with the crime scene processing, the release said.

Police were dispatched to the area in reference to a shooting at 11:21 a.m. and Throckmorton was pronounced dead at the emergency room about 12:43 p.m., police said.

Crime tape blocked off the area and crime tape was also used to cordon off the south side parking area of the Wells Fargo Bank.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., the police escorted a man and a woman to separate vehicles from the house at 222 E. High. Each had both of their hands covered with paper bags taped to the wrist area.

It is the second homicide, in less than three months in Tucumcari.

Jason Pacheco, 31, died on Feb. 1 as a result of a gunshot he received in a fight on Main Street. A man was held in "investigative detention" after that incident and was later released.

The Tucuncari Police Department turned over the investigation of the Pacheco shooting to the New Mexico State Police, which has not yet released any findings.
