Portales golfers forfeit trophy

Because of an error on a scorecard, the Portales Ram golf team’s win at the Roswell-NMMI Tournament on Tuesday has been retracted.

Coach Patrick Crowley said the number of strokes recorded on one Ram player’s card was correct. One hole was recorded as par when it was a bogey, and another hole was recorded bogey when it was par.

The error, which was caught and reported by the Portales team, adds 27 strokes in penalty to the team’s score.

“We learned a valuable lesson, a very valuable lesson” Crowley said. “It’s just what happens. We called it on ourselves.”
