Delivery man stabbed, robbed

A Clovis man was stabbed multiple times and robbed Saturday while delivering pizza, according to Clovis police.

Guido Fernandez, 20, an employee of Papa John’s Pizza, was stabbed at least five times around 10:30 p.m. after he delivered pizza on Gidding Street, according to a police report of the incident.

Fernandez suffered a collapsed left lung and a punctured trachea from stab wounds, in addition to three or four other stab wounds in the upper torso and left shoulder, according to the report.

He drove back to Papa John’s on 21st Street where an ambulance and police were called in reference to a subject “with a slit throat,” the report reads.

Witnesses said Fernandez had just finished delivering pizza to a resident in the 1900 block of Gidding Street when he had an altercation with two men who attacked him near the driveway of the residence, according to the report. The suspects stole approximately $14 from Fernandez, according to Clovis Police spokesperson Capt. Patrick Whitney.

Fernandez was flown to a Lubbock hospital Saturday, according to the report. Officials at Lubbock hospitals couldn’t confirm Fernandez was treated. Calls to Plains Regional Medical Center were not returned.

According to police, Fernandez was in a stable condition as of Monday evening.

Clovis Papa John’s manager Mike Reid declined to comment.

Spokesperson Whitney said Monday the stabbing incident is under investigation. Police have identified suspects in the incident and anticipate their arrest, he said.

Whitney said pizza deliverers are jumped a couple times a year in Clovis, but never to “this extent.”
