Movie gets star treatment

The Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce is rolling out the red carpet at 7:30 p.m. on March 8 at the Clovis Civic Center.

The Hollywood-style event, which will feature champagne and hors d’oeuvres, is in honor of the Clovis premiere of the movie “Believe in Me.”

“We (Chamber of Commerce) are hoping everyone will dress up for the event,” Chamber of Commerce spokesperson Liz Eisenbraun said.

Filmed in the Clovis area in October 2004, “Believe in Me” tells the story of an Oklahoma girls’ basketball team and coach.

The movie’s producers, Cottie Chub and John Bard Manulis, are expected to attend the red-carpet reception, according to Eisenbraun.

The movie stars Jeffrey Donovan, Samantha Mathis, Bruce Dern and several local residents. Eisenbraun said she was unable to confirm if any of the actors featured in the movie planned to attend the reception.

Limited VIP tickets for the sneak preview of “Believe in Me” will go on sale at 8 a.m. Monday at the Chamber for $25.

Besides the red-carpet event, the VIP tickets also include a sneak preview of the movie. Show times are 5:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at the North Plains Mall Cinema 7 Theaters.

Although Eisenbraun has yet to see the entire movie, she said viewing the trailer has her excited about the movie’s debut.

“The movie is everything I thought it would be,” she said. “The director, Robert Collector, wanted big heart and big skies, and he accomplished that.”
