Background: Graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1976, Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas, in 1983 and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1987. First pastorate was in Joy, Texas, from 1984 to 1991. Became pastor at Parkland Baptist Church in Clovis in May 1991.
Family: Married 23 years to Latriece. One daughter, Merideth, 20, who lives in Lubbock, and a son Taylor, 14, who is in the eighth-grade at Yucca Junior High.
When you were a kid, what did you think you would be doing as an adult? A carpenter
What is the best part of being a pastor? Helping people and watching them grow in Christ
What is the worst part about being a pastor? Administration
If you could talk to God, what is one question you would ask him? I can talk to him, so I ask everyday, “Are you coming today?”
What sin do you commit most? Selfishness
What are your hobbies? Hunting, fly-fishing and woodwork
What is something people would be surprised to learn about you? I like country music.
What was your most embarrassing moment behind the pulpit? Still to come
What is your greatest fear? Not doing God’s will
What is your greatest hope? Spending eternity in heaven with Jesus
What would you like printed on your gravestone? He’s not here.
What do you think is the most important lesson a young person can learn today? It’s not about me.
