Roosevelt shuts out American

Thursday night’s Little League game between the Roosevelt County All-stars and the Clovis American all-stars ended with a mercy rule call in Roosevelt’s favor, 10-0.

The game kept even at no-score for the first two innings. Roosevelt pulled ahead in the third, scoring seven. They scored three in the fourth, ending the game instantly.

Lane Carrasco stole home in the fourth inning for the final run.

“Both teams had good coaching,” Roosevelt County manager Sammy Villanueva said. “I was really expecting a much closer game.”

“It was a fine game,” said Carrasco, who was the winning pitcher.

In the first inning, Roosevelt’s catcher Jarret Faust caught an American player stealing second, forcing the first out of the game.

“Baseball is a tricky sport at times, you don’t know which way the ball will bounce,” Clovis American manager John Austin said. “We all came out here expecting to win.”

Clovis Zia defeated Quay County in the other game of the night. That means Roosevelt will face Zia while Clovis American pairs up with Quay County in the loser’s bracket.

Both games are on Saturday.
