Rury, Zelbert “Zeb”

Zelbert “Zeb” Rury, 78, of Clovis died Sunday, June 18, 2006, at Plains Regional Medical Center.

Born June 20, 1927, in Rush Springs, Okla., to James and Jane Rury, he moved to Bovina in 1942 and graduated from Farwell High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. He married Erma Robards on June 6, 1953.

He retired from U.S. West Telephone Co. as a central office technician on April 30, 1992, with 41 years of service, and continued as an active member of the Telephone Pioneers.

After retiring, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, having coffee and playing pool with his friends, and working in the yard, family members said. He was an avid sports fan, according to his family. A kind and patient man, he enjoyed giving and caring for others, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family members said.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, who died Nov. 27, 1991; his twin brother, Elbert “Ebb” Rury of Belen, his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his three sons, Stephen W. Rury (and wife, Lee), Michael W. Rury and Jimmy Carl Hensarling (Tracy); and six grandchildren, William Rury, Grace Rury, Brandi Rury, Keegan Rury, Jake Hensarling and Kelly Hensarling.

Pastor Pete Jones will officiate.

Burial will be at Bovina Cemetery in Bovina.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Dillard, William Gromowsky, Ellis Jones, Billy Strand, C.V. Thompson and Ned Riley.

Honorary pallbearers will be retired and active U.S. West employees.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
