Murder suspect captured

The suspect sought in connection with Clovis’ lastest homicide was apprehended early this morning. Tony Martinez was located at a hotel in Lamesa, Texas, just before 6 a.m. (CDT), according to police.

Police have alleged Martinez, 51, shot and killed Hugo Ochoa on Wednesday in front of a home at 410 Rencher Street.

Ochoa, 32, shot once in the back, died at the scene, marking the city’s third homicide this year.

A warrant was issued for Martinez on Thursday.

He is charged with an open count of murder, shooting at a motor vehicle and felon in possession of a firearm. When arrested he had narcotics and firearms in his possession, police said.

Lt. Jim Schoeffel, public information officer for the Clovis Police Department, said Lamesa police have Martinez in their custody and local investigators have gone to Texas to begin the extradition process.

The arrest came after Lamesa police received a tip leading them to the hotel, Schoeffel said.
