Musick, Kyle

Kyle Joe Musick, 46, of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at his home.

Born Nov. 22, 1959, in Farmington to William Charles and Naomia Jean Justus Musick, he moved with his family to Grants in 1960. He graduated from high school in 1977. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Lubbock Christian University with a major in art and a bachelor of arts in education from Eastern New Mexico University. At ENMU, he was the strength coach for the Greyhound football team. In 1989, he began his teaching career at Eunice Municipal Schools. From 1991 to 1995 he was art director for Portales Municipal Schools. He taught art in Hondo Valley Schools from 1995 to 1996, and later was an art instructor for Moriarty Municipal Schools. He often used his art program to reach out to students not experiencing success in other areas of their lives, family members said.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Naomia Jean Justus Musick; grandparents, John and Carrie Musick and Claude and Miriam Justus; an uncle, Orville Justus; and a cousin, Dwight Justus.

Survivors include his father of Clovis; a brother, Kevin Musick of Clovis; a sister-in-law, Therese Michael Musick of Clovis; two nieces, Jennifer Crowder (and husband, Brian and daughter, Madyson) of Clovis and Jessica Williams (Ronnie) of Clovis; and a nephew, Justin Musick (Jana Massey) of Clovis; and numerous cousins and friends.

Mike Kennedy is officiating.

A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday in Moriarty.

Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.

Honorary pallbearers are Pat Randolph, Guyle Roberson, Billy Gee, Curtis Dean, Sterling Mize, Jeff Ebert, John Beach, Mike Ritchie, Dave Hall, Donny Carthel, Jimmie Gilliland, Bill Aucutt, Carl Michael, Brian Crowder and Ronnie Williams.

Memorials may be made to the Kyle Musick Scholarship Fund at Moriarty schools.
