Clovis man shot and killed

Staff Report

Clovis police are investigating the Wednesday night shooting death of a 32-year-old Clovis man, according to a department press release.

Police responding to a report of shots fired found Hugo Ochoa about 7:30 p.m. at 410 Rencher St. with a single gunshot wound in the back, the release said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 9th Judicial District Major Crimes Unit is handling the investigation.

Investigators have identified a person of interest in the shooting but no arrests have been made, according to Lt. James Schoeffel, public information officer for the Clovis Police Department.

Two search warrants connected to the case were served Thursday on local residences resulting in the seizure of an undisclosed amount of narcotics and firearms, according to Schoeffel

Officials declined to say if the firearms recovered were connected to the homicide.

Schoeffel said a motive for the shooting has not been confirmed.

It is the city's third homicide in 2006, according to Schoeffel.
