City being considered for movie

Clovis is being considered as a site for a movie called “Seasons of Dust,” Mayor David Lansford said.

Set in 1930, the movie will portray an Oklahoma farming family forced to move to the city after being unable to eke out a living due to dust storms.

Lansford said Clovis is being considered due to the older infrastructure, grain elevators and the obvious availability to catch dust on film.

The mayor said no cash incentives were offered to the film crew; however, the city would provide city services such as traffic control, police and public works.

A woman who answered the phone at Sacred Heart Catholic Church confirmed there is a film crew scouting their parish as a possible site. She said the crew expects to be in the Clovis area for three months and would require the church to cancel Saturday Bingo games until the filming is complete.

Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce officials declined to comment, citing a signed confidentiality agreement.

The New Mexico Film office, a division of the New Mexico Economic Development Department, offers incentives to film crews, including a 25-percent tax rebate on all product expenditures and a zero percent loan for up to $15 million per project.

Katie Roberts of the New Mexico Economic Development Department said she was not aware of the movie.
