Rury, Elbert W. “Ebb”

Elbert W. “Ebb” Rury, 78, of Belen died Friday, May 5, 2006, at Loveland Hospital of Albuquerque.

Born on June 20, 1927, in Oklahoma, he had been a Belen resident since 1971 and previously lived in Clovis.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having proudly served in Korea, his family said. He retired from Mountain Bell Telephone Co. after 32 years of service and continued as an active member of the Telephone Pioneers organization. After retirement, he became the administrator of the Belen Harvey House for a number of years. He and his wife, Virgie L. Rury, became active fishermen after retirement and spent many summers with friends on the upper Pecos River, according to his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years; his twin brother, Zelbert W. Rury of Clovis; son, Robert Rury (and wife, Debbie) of Fairview, Texas; grandson, Sean Rury (Tara) and their daughter Morgan of Tulsa, Okla .; and several nieces, nephews and close family members.

Cremation will take place. Interment is pending.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the First United Methodist Church of Belen building fund.
