Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Student profile: Erika Watson

Erika Watson is a senior at the Clovis High School. She is the daughter of Mike Watson and Kymburly Odell.

What would you like printed on your gravestone? “Every day she lived for Christ.”

What’s so great about your favorite sport? The wonderful thing about cheerleading is that I am able to form relationships with some of the greatest girls at the high school and I am able to cheer for my boyfriend, Jonathan Sweet, during football and basketball.

What was your most embarrassing moment? Years ago, I participated in a Rodeo Queens Pageant. During the pageant, I had to model. After I modeled, I was walking off the stage and I slipped on the steps and fell down, in a dress. I was embarrassed, but I just laughed it off and continued with the pageant.

Who is your hero and why? My hero, hands down, is Jesus Christ. He lived a sinless life, yet he was persecuted daily. He stood for love, faith and obedience to the Lord. For some crazy reason, people had trouble accepting his teachings. He died a cruel and horrible death for all mankind and rose again three days later so we, sinners, could be forgiven by Christ.
