Eagles win district track meet

Keeson Bell picked up a pair of wins and Clovis Christian swept the sprint relays Saturday en route the District 4-1A boys track title at Fort Sumner.

Bell cleared 6 feet, 1 inch to win the high jump and also added a gold medal in the triple jump for the Eagles, who finished with 158 points.

Clovis Christian also picked up wins from Matt Young in the long jump, Michael King in the 100 meters, Daniello Knierim in the 400, Matt Ware in the 300 hurdles and Dustin Handley in the 800.

San Jon finished second with 102 points and Grady took fourth with 55.

The Clovis Christian girls tied for fourth with Grady behind Logan.

Sophomore Bailey Bell won the shot put for the Lady Eagles.

In the District 3-1A meet, the Fort Sumner boys and Floyd girls took home titles.

Jeremy Gauna paced a dominating performance by the Foxes with wins in the 110 and 300 hurdles and high jump.

Fort Sumner captured 11 of the meet’s 19 events and finished with 211 points.

Melrose’s Cedar Rush was also a multiple winner with gold medals in the 100, 200 and 400, leading the Buffaloes to a second-place finish with 142 1/2 points.

In the girls meet, Floyd held off Fort Sumner 147 1/2 to 144.

Kelli Johnson (1600, 3200), Kelsi Gray (100, 200) and Jordan Gray (400, 800) were double winners for Floyd.

At the 6-2A meet in Texico, the Lady Wolverines used their superior depth to win the title.

Texico picked up wins from Lori Richardson (javelin), Brooke Bailey (shot), Elizabeth Vidal (200) and the 1600 relay team while finishing with 138 points.

Santa Rosa was second with 114 points and Clayton third with 95.

In the boys meet, Mario Posadas (400, triple jump) and Jonathan Sullivan (1600, 3200) were double winners for the Wolverines.

Justin Garrison added a win in the long jump for the Wolverines, who finished a distant third behind Tucumcari and Santa Rosa.
