Spikes, Johnnie “Jan”

Johnnie “Jan” Spikes, 65, of Clovis, died Thursday, April 13, 2006, at her home.

Born April 9, 1941, to Annie L. Turner and Andy Edwards Sr. in Hughes Springs, she taught at Barry and LaCasita elementary schools and Bovina Public Schools, retiring after a 34-year career. She was a member of Faith Christian Family Church.

She is survived by her two daughters, Fertisha LaQuenta Spikes of Clovis and Valerie Eileen (and husband, Musbaw) Alawiye of Amarillo; four sisters, Mattie J. (Mayrion) Holloman and Florence M. (Everette) Royal, all of Hughes Springs, Myra J. Hatton of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Valley A. Newsome of Snyder, Texas; her brother, Andy Edward Jr. of Hughes Springs; and a grandchild, Kandese Annette Spikes of Clovis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters and one brother.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Muffley Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Maurice Monson officiating.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Reeder-Davis Funeral Home.

Rev. John Mayshack will officiate at services. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Hughes Springs.

Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home and Reeder-Davis Funeral Home.
