Clovis man convicted for stolen vehicle

A jury convicted a 54-year-old Clovis man Friday of possessing a stolen vehicle, according to a press release issued Friday by the district attorney’s office.

Lorenzo Chavez faces five to nine years in prison as a repeat offender, and will be sentenced in the next two weeks, according to the release.

A 2004 GMC truck was located in Chavez’s driveway the day after a Clovis family reported it stolen, according to the press release.

Yucca student finishes fifth in state bee

Yucca Junior High seventh-grader Daina Gallegos finished fifth Saturday in the New Mexico Spanish Spelling Bee in Albuquerque.

Gabriel Chavez of Floyd placed 11th and Jessica LaValle of Portales took 12th in the annual event.

Aide Jimenez of Roswell won the bee.
