Sanders, Mickey

Mickey Lee Sanders, 67, of Portales, died Monday, April 3, 2006, at her home.

Born Sept. 23, 1938, in Putnam, Texas, to Byron and Velda Lee, she married Dallan Sanders in 1957. They moved to Portales, where she worked at the Portales National Bank. Their daughter, Penny, was born in 1960. In 1962, the family moved to Carlsbad, where son Rob was born. They returned to Portales in 1966, where they made their permanent home. She went to work as an aide in the Portales public schools in 1966. Several years later, she became an elementary school secretary, continuing in that position until her retirement in 1998.

Family members said she was a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend. They said she loved her home, which she named Casa del Sol.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. For the past two years, she was an active member of the singing group Sharing Hearts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Jimmie.

She is survived by her children; two sisters, Peggy and Jane; and many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews, and loyal friends.

Cremation will take place at Muffley Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials to the Dallan Sanders Memorial Scholarship fund at Eastern New Mexico University or the American Cancer Society.
