Chaparral Extension Club

The Chaparral Extension Club met March 9 at the 21st Street Church of Christ with 15 members present.

Roll call was answered with the question, “If you had one wish, what would you wish for?”

Betty Jackson read “The Road to Success is Not Straight.”

President Sheryl Abdill called the business meeting to order. The council meeting was discussed. Plans were finalized for entertaining the Ranchvale Club, and eight people volunteered to decorate a table for the tea. Members were encouraged to enter the upcoming cultural arts.Hostesses for next month were selected.

Hostesses Dorothy Bean and Valeria Jordon served a delicious potluck meal. The group then made casserole carriers to be gifts for all who attend next meeting’s tea.

Pleasant Hill Women’s Club

The Pleasant Hill Women’s Club met March 16 at the Lighthouse Mission in Clovis for its regular meeting. The club was welcomed by Carlos Gomez who gave the club a tour of the facility. Fresh-baked cookies were served to the members before the tour. There were many nice comments about the new facility, the way it is organized and run.

Pamela Combs showed the newest project — a basket filled with items for the mother and newborn baby to be given to deserving unwed mothers. Later at the club meeting, the club voted to give a sizable donation to this project.

The club then went to the Taqueria Jalisco Restaurant to dine and for the meeting. There were nine members present. There was a discussion about the April 20 meeting, which will be a tour of an antique store in Plainview, Texas. Kaye Barnes will coordinate this tour. The home tours in May were discussed. Nancy Barnes reported that she has two houses to view at this time. Reports were given on several members who were ill and not able to attend the March meeting.

Clovis Drove No. 108

Clovis Drove No. 108 held a regular meeting March 23 with President Gaylynn presiding. She asked for role call of officers and committee reports, then called for initiation of proposed members.

Secretary Christine Daves read the names of Robin Dickson from Gold Hill, Ore., and Nancy Freeman from Clovis. The Drove gave a warm welcome to the new members. President Gaylynn reported on the New Mexico South/Arizona South 44th District meeting held in Ruidoso on March 10 and 11. President Marn Eshom of Ruidoso and her Drove are to be thanked for hosting a wonderful meeting.

Clovis Drove had the privilege of Bea Martel serving as district president over the N.M.A.C.S. meeting and did a great job. Linda Catanzaro was elected N.M.A.C.S. district treasurer for 2007.

The podium was then given to Supreme President Cynthia Hill, who presided over the school of instruction and demonstrating the ritual work.

Her theme of “Let Love Lead the Way” was demonstrated to all who attended the district meeting.

Among the honored guests were Past Supreme President Peggy Long of South Carolina, Past Supreme President Jo Newton of Ruidoso, Past Supreme President Ellen Tomberlin of Grance Malom, Supreme First Counselor Karen Bennett of Wisconsin, Supreme Junior Counselor Belinda Puckett of Ruidoso, Supreme Elect Inner Guard Robin Bell of North Carolina and Supreme Elect Outer Guard Patricia Kloberdanz of Colorado.

Supreme President Cynthia Hill announced her appointments to National Grand Lodge committees in Addison, Texas, June 18- 22. They are Kaye Parrish to supreme guards assistant, Linda Catanzaro to the Election Board Committee and Kristy Bennett to the Good of the Order Committee.

Congratulations to all who were appointed.

The next meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. on April 13 at the Elks Lodge. Past presidents will be honored.
