Hawkins, Betty

Betty Hawkins, 83, of Clovis, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, in Plano, Texas. She was born Nov. 8, 1922, at Maple Farm, Kingman County, Kan., to John and Olive Hargett Maple. She graduated from Belmont Kansas High School and Harding College in Searcy, Ark.

She married Robert “Bob” Hawkins Aug. 5, 1945, at Maple Farm. They began a life of ministry that took them to Greenville, Miss.; Chickasha, Okla.; Plainview, Texas; Clovis and Yukon, Okla.

After 50 years of service to the Church of Christ, they retired in Clovis. She was a member of the 16th and Pile Church of Christ until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died Oct. 11, 2003; a son, Robby; a brother, Jim; three sisters, Ruth Jones, Lois and Rachel Maple; and a granddaughter, Kari Heil.

She is survived by a son, Brad Hawkins (and wife, Karen) of Hobbs; a daughter, Jill Firestone (Ronnie) of Carrollton, Texas; a brother, John Maple of Rago, Kan.; two sisters, Esther Young of Rago and Eunice Reiboldt of Neosho, Mo.; three grandchildren, Sarah and Ryan, both of Hobbs, and Kelli Lara of Littleton, Colo.; and three great-grandchildren, Maryn and Elizabeth Heil and Jaxon Lara.
