McCoy, Roma

Roma E. McCoy, 92, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at Bixby Manor Nursing Home in Broken Arrow, Okla.

She was born Oct. 7, 1913, in Jack County, Texas, to Eva Ford and Lennie Newkirk.

She married Carl Willis McCoy in Amarillo. He died in 1987.

She was a homemaker and operated childcare services from her home. She moved to Broken Arrow, Okla. in 1995.

She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Family members said she enjoyed embroidery, taking care of children and was an avid reader.

She was preceded in death by her parents; several brothers and sisters; a grandson, Lyndell; and her husband.

She is survived by a son, Carl McCoy (and wife, Marilyn) of Portales; five daughters, Eva Sills (Bob) of Broken Arrow, Okla., Carlene Blizel (David) of Fort Worth, Texas, Shirley Allen (T.J.) of North Richland Hills, Texas, Mikey Foster (David) of Fountain Valley, Calif., and Pam Preston (Tommy) of Portales; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother Rex Newkirk of Grand Junction, Colo.; and two sisters, Elsie Hollabaugh of Tyler, Texas, and Lennie Raymond of Shamrock, Texas.

The Revs. Kenneth Dunsworth and Winston Berry will officiate services.

Additional services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, Okla. Pastor Nick Garland will officiate.

Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday until 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary. The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund in Broken Arrow, Okla., or to the New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home.
