Starcher, Rebecca “Becky”

Rebecca Mae “Becky” Owen Starcher, 90, of Carlsbad, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, in Clovis.

She was born Nov. 25, 1915, in Maury County, Tenn., to Joseph Ellis and Odie Elizabeth Bryant Dodson. She married Walter Emmett Owen and, after his death, she married Roma “Red” Starcher.

She came to Carlsbad in 1968 from Clovis. She was employed as a cook with the Carlsbad public schools until her retirement. Family members said she enjoyed cooking, playing cards, walking, yard work, her garden and the San Jose Senior Citizens Center. She was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, AARP and Rebecca Assembly (IOOF).

She was preceded in death by her husbands; one infant son; three brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include her son, James Emmett Owen of Apache Junction, Ariz.; his children, James and Timmy Owen; one grandchild, Dillon; Jane Harrington (and her husband, Moreland) of Clovis; their children, Stephen Harrington, Kim Dunafon and Tonye Crooks; their grandchildren, Taylor and Kendra Crooks, Jake, Josh and J.J. Dunafon and Meredith and Mark Harrington, Edna Hager (John) of Albuquerque; their children, Wendy Tankersley, Melanie Phares and John D. Hager; and their grandchildren, Erin Phares and Leah and Becca Tankersley, Becky Grau of Clovis; her children, Doug Grau, Nickolas Grau and Stefani Grau; and her grandchildren, Ashley Grau, Ethan Cassidy and Aidan Grau; and last daughter Debbie.

Rev. John Hinze of Hillcrest Baptist Church is officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Senior Citizen Resident Center, 2210 Mabry Drive, Clovis, N.M. 88101, or Vista Care Hospice, 2708 N. Prince, Clovis, NM 88101 or a charity of choice.
