• Dave Nash on his uncle Dorsey “Doc” Nash, farmer, rancher and bus contractor for Floyd schools:

“He taught me it don’t take many words to get your point across. (I remember) his fairness, morals, and standing up for what was right. He could get a strong point across with few words. He wouldn’t hurt a flea but in who he was, he demanded respect. He had a lot of influence but was not flamboyant, he influenced a lot of lives, lots and lots. He made a whale of a ride, in rodeo terms, he made good run. Uncle Doc, he was a dandy.”

Doc Nash died Jan. 2

• Marie Gomez on her mother Josefa Gariepy, homemaker:

“What I remember about her life is she enjoyed crocheting and braiding rugs. She was very loving and she really loved her grandchildren. She (kept her home) very clean, she never let anybody clean for her. The minute we finished eating the table was clean and cleared away and she wouldn’t let anybody help her. I’m so blessed I had her for (so many) years.”

Josefa Gariepy, died Jan. 23
