Macias indicted in shooting

A Magistrate Court judge ruled Thursday during a preliminary hearing that probable cause exists to indict a 30-year-old Clovis man on first-degree murder, shooting at a moving vehicle and felon in possession of a firearm, according to a press release from the 9th Judicial District Court.

Magistrate Judge Richard Hollis, who heard testimony from one eyewitness to the shooting and a detective from the 9th Judicial District Court, ruled there was probable cause to proceed with charges against Robert Macias, 30, in district court, the release said.

Macias, who police say shot and killed Wilfred Salas Jr., 19, last month on Merriwether Street, has been held at the Curry County Adult Detention Center on a $100,000 bond since being arrested Jan. 16 on an unrelated charge, according to the release.

Macias faces life in prison if convicted and his bond has been revoked, the release said.
