All-district teams named

Volleyball team honored by district

Five Portales players earned first-team honors for the All-District 4-3A volleyball team.

Megan Kabrick, Morgan Hill, Ella Erf, Ashleah Richards and Bethany Self all earned first-team honor for Portales, which went 5-0 against District 4-3A opponents and 13-0 against Class 3A teams during its 22-3 state championship season.

Lovington had four players earn first-team spots — Jenna Domzalski, Crystal Marquez, Whitney Choate and Shay Garcia. Ruidoso first-team selections were Amanda Gardner, Pony Page and Ariana Ramos.

Earning second team nods for Portales were Dallas Russell, Amanda Terry and Briana Hernandez. Honorable mentions were Montana Russell, Tori Teague, Rebekah Gonzales and Tara Johnson.

Ten Portales players make 4-3A team

Seven Portales players earned first-team nods and three got second-team selections on the All-District 4-3A team, released Saturday.

Center Jake Leal, guard Robert Kemp and tight end Todd McBroom earned first-team spots on offense. Linebackers Taylor Teague and Kaleb Aguirre earned first-team spots on defense, along with nose guard Corey Tucker and defensive tackle Erett Grubbs.

District champion and 3A state runnerup Lovington had 16 first-team selections — eight on offense, six on defense and two on special teams. Ruidoso also earned 16 first-team selections and New Mexico Military Institute had eight earn first-team honors.

Second-team selections for Portales were guard Alonzo Ontiveros, quarterback Mario Salazar and wide receiver Hunter Rackler.

Portales went winless in its three district games, but earned Class 3A’s No. 11 seed with a 3-8 record and lost to Raton 15-7.

Class 2A All-State spikers released

The Class 2A All-State team saw state runnerup Texico earn five spots on the first team.

Seniors Lori Richardson and Stephanie Bailey were each named as outside hitters, while senior Erika Autrey earned middle blocker honors. Sophomore Bryn Mayfield (setter) and Faith Martin (libero) also earned first-team nods.

State champion Ramah had three first-team selections and three second-team selections. Texico had no second-team selections.
