Club Notes (Nov. 27)

El Portal

THE NSDAR El Portal Chapter met at 10 a.m. on Nov. 12 at 104 E. 17th in Portales. The hostess was Carolyn Thompson. The program subject was Washington, D.C. Regent Wanda Dunn presided over the meeting. Members present were Cori Snobble, Carol Nash, Vicky Stratton, Wanda Dunn, Bess Jones, E. C. Shaeffer, Claudia Prince, Linda Essary, Neva Steele, Jessie Starauch, Linda Baldock and Carolyn Thompson.

A memorial service was held for Annie Sarabeth Steele, who passed away Oct. 20, 2005.

Opening rituals followed. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The treasurers report was given.

Wanda and Carol Nash are working on getting our meeting announcements and highlights printed in both Portales and Clovis newspapers.

Judges will be needed for the American history essays.

The vote to accept Millie Roach as a member was unanimous. Treva Steele Kline’s name was presented for membership. Next year, 2006, will mark El Portal Chapter’s 75th anniversary.

Wanda Dunn presented information about the 2006 Junior Membership Doll, and about the State Regent’s cookbook project. Recipes need to be sent to Wanda Dunn by Dec. 5.

Carolyn Thompson served refreshments and presented an interesting slide show about the White House.

The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at The Territorial Restaurant in Portales. The program will be the Christmas dinner. The dinner will require formal dress.
